Rice Science Policy Network
We aim to engage the Rice University community in issues pertaining to science and technology policy through:
Bringing together members of the Rice community to learn about science and technology policy and collaboratively advance initiatives;
Sharing science and technology policy resources, events, opportunities, and connections for further engagement;
Inviting speakers, coordinating events, and facilitating discussions around science and technology policy issues;
Providing opportunities and support for participants to improve their science and science and technology policy communication skills;
Promoting science and technology policy career paths and providing professional development opportunities, including supporting participants in developing competitive applications for fellowships and jobs;
Working with the greater community on science and technology issues, as well as advocating for evidence-based policymaking.
Baker Institute for Public Policy
Rice SciPol is supported by club sponsors Dr. Kirstin Matthews and Dr. Kenny Evans from Rice University's Baker Institute for Public Policy.
Founded in 1993, the Baker Institute has established itself as one of the premier nonpartisan public policy think tanks in the country. Key research programs include energy, the Middle East, health, Mexico studies, public finance, and entrepreneurship and economic growth. The institute collaborates with experts from academia, government, the media, business, and nongovernmental and private organizations.
National Science Policy Network
Rice SciPol is a chapter of the National Science Policy Network, a non-profit representing early career science policy, advocacy, and diplomacy groups distributed across the country. NSPN is focused on providing a platform for sharing resources, building relationships, and training the next generation of scientists and engineers to be pivotal voices in all levels of policy making.
